Starting from SUCEAVA, this tour is covering 330 km scenic full day trip where you will discover the land of Maramures where the history and legends are so alive that the modern civilization could not spoil its genuine culture. The folk culture is present in every day life as it used to be in the old times.

In the morning around 07.30am you'll drive toward Maramures region, a place where the purity of nature blends with the beauty of the old villages, a place where the locals kept untouched their traditions, a place where the carved wood represents a common way of building. Driving through Ciocanesti village, where you'll be able to admire the locals’ houses and to visiting a typical one inside, passing Carpathians through Prislop Pass -1416m, the highest point of this trip, you'll reach Borsa village in Maramures. Here optional you can have a short break for meal at the traditional places famous for their "goulash".

The first visit in Maramures is the Museum of the Peasant Women in Dragomiresti village. It is a traditional wooden house which belonged to a woman never married.

Next, you'll stop in Ieud Deal wooden church, UNESCO heritage. The interior paintings of the church form one of the best-preserved entities of post-Byzantine mural painting in Maramureş.

The paintings were made on pieces of textile that were treated with a preparatory layer of limewash and were then stuck to the wooden logs. After that we’ll drive to the nearby Rozavlea Church (1720). The church gives the impression of monumentality with its tall tower and its sharply pitched roof with double eaves. The polygonal chancel apse is covered with its own slightly lower roof.

Then we'll visit Barsana Monastery a large monastic complex comprising of several wooden buildings, all constructed in the local style, including the wooden church The Gate Tower is the highest wooden building from Europe.

After we'll passing through Iza Valley admiring the village with wooden gates, the wooden houses, with the local architecture, we'll visit a place with ancient machines powered by river: corn mill, laundry of carpets on river, plum distillery of traditional drink "Palinca" and the locals.

In Sundays or holidays people wear traditional romanian costumes.

Then we’ll reach at Sighetu Marmatiei, where you'll find out something about the horrors of the communism regime. Optional and if time will permitting, we'll visit The Memorial Museum of Anticommunism Resistance - a prison where during the passed communism years many important Romanian leaders, and also common people who were against the regime, lost their lives.

In the afternoon we reach at Sapanta and visit the famous Merry Cemetery, truly one of the most unique sites in Europe. It is famous for its colorful tombstones with native paintings describing, in an original and poetic manner, the persons that are buried there as well as scenes from their lives. The Merry Cemetery became an open-air museum and a national tourist attraction.

In the same village, optional you'll stop to admire the highest wooden structure in the world: Peri Convent, recently rebuilt.

After enjoying a beautiful day, you’ll back to over night at Sighetu Marmatiei or Vadu Izei village, where we may arrange accommodation at the best charges. Optional after end tour we can drive to Viseu de Sus if you desire to spend one more day in Maramures and to enjoy by Mocanita Trip - see details .
